PIP is so grateful for the two champion sponsors that made this event possible. Below you can learn more about the Reproductive Psychiatry Clinic of Austin and The Breastfeeding Success Company.

Reproductive Psychiatry Clinic of Austin focuses on mental wellness surrounding infertility, pregnancy, menopause and the menstrual cycle using both telepsychiatry and in person care.

Infertility affects an estimated 10%-15% of couples of reproductive age and in recent years, the number of couples seeking treatment for infertility has dramatically increased. The stress of treatment as well as the wish for a child has been associated with a milieu of emotions such as anger, depression, anxiety, marital problems, sexual dysfunction, and social isolation. Couples experience stigma, sense of loss, and diminished self-esteem in the setting of their infertility (Nachtigall 1992).

“Our board-certified psychiatrists, licensed therapists, and staff take extra time to provide quality, personalized care to each individual. We approach treatment by using evidence-based medicine, and work with each person to design a safe, integrative treatment plan they feel most comfortable with. Care from our clinic can be provided to anyone living within the state of Texas by use of telehealth services.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that infants be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months with continued breastfeeding while introducing appropriate complementary foods for 1 year or longer. While it’s only a recommendation, many parents are discouraged within the first 24 hours for a variety of reasons. Breastfeeding Success Company wants to help change that.

Founded and headquartered in Austin, Texas, The Breastfeeding Success Company LLC (BFS) is Central Texas’ largest lactation services, parent education, and neonatal nutrition services provider. Their goal is to make lactation support, parent education, and infant nutrition services more available and affordable for the health and well-being of babies, mothers and families.

“While the art of breastfeeding and the science of lactation and human milk holds both thousands of years of maternal wisdom and two recent decades of scientific discovery, the support that women receive before and after childbirth is often inconsistent. Even when they receive support in hospital, mothers may encounter challenges at home or work that they find difficult to resolve, and there may be gaps with follow-up care. This lack of support throughout the entire breastfeeding journey has lead to disturbingly low levels of breastfeeding postpartum even though the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding a year or longer for optimal health. The Breastfeeding Success Company exists to help mothers, healthcare facilities, and employers to remove these barriers so mothers can find their own breastfeeding success. The Breastfeeding Success Company’s mission is to improve the health of mothers and their babies by providing the gold standard of breastfeeding medicine and neonatal dietetics when and where they need it. We aim to make breastfeeding support synonymous with postnatal care for mother and baby by increasing access, delivery  and the economics of quality support from International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLCs)”.

Need to talk to a lactation consultant about specific needs, or have general breastfeeding questions?Call (512)8080-BFS(237) or visit Breastfeeding Success Company.

ABOUT PIP

Partners in Parenting (PIP) is an Austin-based nonprofit dedicated to building a village for all new parents. Through programming in neighborhoods across the City, PIP supports parents to help them become confident, connected, and have the tools to reach their full potential. PIP’s approach was founded by its own parent company, the 35-year-old Seattle-based Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS), and is proven to successfully connect newborn parents with peers, trained facilitators, and experts share the joy and weather the storms of new parenthood together. The mission of the organization revolves around the belief that healthy families raise healthy children, and that thriving families are the foundation of strong communities. By helping Austin’s parents thrive, we help our entire community thrive. To date, PIP has served over 650 families (1,800 individuals). We have served 40 zip codes in Austin and have a goal to serve 400 families annually in 2020. More information on Partners in Parenting can be found at pipaustin.org.

Talk First! Workshop

Wed, June 27, 2018
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM CDT

Join Partners in Parenting (PIP) and Planned Parenthood as we host this Talk First! Workshop for parents to learn how to talk about bodies and relationships with their young children.

"From birth to age 5 children are curious about different kinds of relationships and their bodies. Their curiosity creates a natural opportunity to start building a respectful and trusting relationship. Join us for an award-winning Talk First! workshop. We can help get the conversation started. Learn how to answer your child's questions and identify teachable moments to share your values and beliefs. Know what to look for and when to speak up during this life-long conversation."

We will gather at 7:00 pm, have some snacks and time for connecting with other parents, then start the workshop promptly at 7:30 pm. The workshop portion will conclude around 9:00 pm.

This event is donation-based with a recommended $10 donation to help cover workshop costs. Please contribute what you are able.
