Reproductive Psychiatry Clinic of Austin focuses on mental wellness surrounding infertility, pregnancy, menopause and the menstrual cycle using both telepsychiatry and in person care.

Infertility affects an estimated 10%-15% of couples of reproductive age and in recent years, the number of couples seeking treatment for infertility has dramatically increased. The stress of treatment as well as the wish for a child has been associated with a milieu of emotions such as anger, depression, anxiety, marital problems, sexual dysfunction, and social isolation. Couples experience stigma, sense of loss, and diminished self-esteem in the setting of their infertility (Nachtigall 1992).

“Our board-certified psychiatrists, licensed therapists, and staff take extra time to provide quality, personalized care to each individual. We approach treatment by using evidence-based medicine, and work with each person to design a safe, integrative treatment plan they feel most comfortable with. Care from our clinic can be provided to anyone living within the state of Texas by use of telehealth services.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that infants be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months with continued breastfeeding while introducing appropriate complementary foods for 1 year or longer. While it’s only a recommendation, many parents are discouraged within the first 24 hours for a variety of reasons. Breastfeeding Success Company wants to help change that.

Founded and headquartered in Austin, Texas, The Breastfeeding Success Company LLC (BFS) is Central Texas’ largest lactation services, parent education, and neonatal nutrition services provider. Their goal is to make lactation support, parent education, and infant nutrition services more available and affordable for the health and well-being of babies, mothers and families.

“While the art of breastfeeding and the science of lactation and human milk holds both thousands of years of maternal wisdom and two recent decades of scientific discovery, the support that women receive before and after childbirth is often inconsistent. Even when they receive support in hospital, mothers may encounter challenges at home or work that they find difficult to resolve, and there may be gaps with follow-up care. This lack of support throughout the entire breastfeeding journey has lead to disturbingly low levels of breastfeeding postpartum even though the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding a year or longer for optimal health. The Breastfeeding Success Company exists to help mothers, healthcare facilities, and employers to remove these barriers so mothers can find their own breastfeeding success. The Breastfeeding Success Company’s mission is to improve the health of mothers and their babies by providing the gold standard of breastfeeding medicine and neonatal dietetics when and where they need it. We aim to make breastfeeding support synonymous with postnatal care for mother and baby by increasing access, delivery  and the economics of quality support from International Board Certified Lactation Consultants® (IBCLCs)”.

PIP is Virtual!

Group Photo_Julia's group.jpg

Dear PIP Village,

I truly hope that you and your families are safe and well during this time. Our hearts are with those who have lost loved ones and who are struggling at this time. There is so much grief and letting go of how life was before we were under shelter-in-place orders. There are so many things that we are missing right now as the world changes before our eyes in unprecedented ways.

As always, at PIP, we look for ways we can provide connection and support to families, even during this time of social distancing. As a result, a month ago, we moved to virtual PIP groups. We are continuing to provide the space for new parents to connect and get the support they need from the comfort of their own homes. We also continue to offer self-select pricing for all of our groups including half and full scholarships. We hope that during this time, potential clients will not see the registration fee as a barrier to joining PIP. We need your help! Please share our information with your expectant and new parent friends.

I must give a huge thank you to the staff and volunteers who have made this leap to virtual. Transitions can be hard and they did it with grace.
I am also pleased to say that PIP is able to maintain all current staff on payroll. We are so grateful for the support of our community that has allowed us to make this possible. As this crisis continues, we would appreciate any additional support that you are able to offer so that we may expand virtual offerings and keep all staff on payroll. If you would like to support PIP donate here today.

Finally, I would like to suggest that PIP alumni reach out to their groups and set up a time to connect with other parents. A Zoom happy hour after bedtime, a storytime on the weekend, or a quick round of highs and lows can be so helpful and are an act of self-care that is really needed right now. I hope you will do this and send us a photo on Instagram #pipatx if you do! Find more tips on self-care below!

Please know that I think you are all doing great and I am grateful that you are part of our village.

In Peace,
Jessica Burleson
Executive Director

AUSTIN-BASED PARENTING NONPROFIT EVENT SEEKS TO FULFILL GOAL OF $75,000 BEFORE AMPLIFY AUSTIN DAY BEGINS

AUSTIN, TEXAS—Partners in Parenting (PIP), the family-centric, nonprofit helping to build and connect a “village” for every new parent in Austin, announced today that it will host its first annual “Connection Matters” Luncheon on Tuesday, February, 25, 2020. The goal of this inaugural event will be to raise more than $75,000, which will fund PIP’s Community Based Groups and to support the organization’s operating costs. Fundraising for the luncheon will continue in tandem with PIP’s efforts for Amplify Austin Day, the annual multi, nonprofit fundraiser event bringing together the Austin community to donate to local nonprofits.

“The Connection Matters Luncheon will help PIP support newborn families and indeed make those connections that matter for our goal of more than 400 Austin families served in 2020.” said Jessica Burleson, Executive Director of Partners in Parenting. “Research proves that supporting our Austin newborn parents leads to significantly healthier families and a stronger community.”

PIP’s first luncheon will be held at the Austin Central Public Library, and will host more than 200 guests. Speeches and appearances will be made by Executive Director Jessica Burleson and board members Rebekah Anthony, Elizabeth Nelson, Whitney Moskowitz, and families who have been involved in and helped by PIP’s programming. Current sponsors include Elizabeth & Justin Nelson, H-E-B Tournament of Champions, Whole Foods, Susman Godfrey LLP, Sagis Diagnostics and Loewy Law Firm. The fundraiser is also supported by more than 45 local businesses, which have donated prize items for the luncheon’s Pacifier-Pull raffle.

Founded in 2014, PIP connects Austin’s newborn families with other newborn families through weekly programming in those early weeks and months. PIP’s enrichment and curriculum has proven to improve the well-being of Austin’s new parents so they are confident, connected, and have the tools to reach their full potential. Parents of newborns are paired with fellow parents of new babies, trained facilitators, and parenting experts, all to share the joys and weather the storms of new parenthood together. PIP believes that building the foundation for healthy families begins by supporting parents in this early phase of parenthood, and as a result the entire community thrives.

“We are looking forward to having so many members of PIP’s support village all in one room,” said Whitney Moskowitz, Board President of Partners in Parenting. “The luncheon will be a meaningful event celebrating the spirit of PIP, and enabling the organization to continue empowering Austin’s newest residents and their parents.”
